Research summary

Project overview

The Smart Appointment System is a healthcare management platform designed for the North-West University clinic ecosystem. Its main goal is to replace traditional queue-based appointment systems with a digital scheduling platform that improves patient experience and clinic efficiency. The system allows students and staff to book, reschedule, or cancel clinic appointments online using their NWU credentials. It provides real-time availability of healthcare providers such as general practitioners, nurses, and specialists, while sending automated confirmations and reminders. Patients can also complete pre-consultation forms and perform digital check-ins at the clinic. For medical staff and administrators, the platform enables queue management, appointment tracking, resource allocation, and operational analytics. By centralizing scheduling and clinic data, the system reduces waiting times, improves resource utilization, and creates a more organized healthcare environment for the university community.
